On June 23, 2011, just after 4:30am, Dennis Widener was riding his bicycle in the crosswalk on Empire at Division. Widener was struck by a northbound light colored sedan.
While Widener was wearing his helmet, he still sustained injuries causing him to be transported to a local hospital for treatment. Widener succumbed to his injuries and died as a result of the collision.
Collision investigators continue to search for the driver of the light colored sedan who failed to stop after the collision. Additional witnesses are still being sought, if anyone has any information about the collision, they are asked to call Crime Check at 456-2233.
